This month I’ve sent in work for an artist’s auction for MSF, Médecins Sans Frontières, UK (Doctors Without Borders) in London and one in Margate called Resistance – Art for a Free Palestine, raising funds for amputee mobility charity Gaza Sunbirds and Gabusittah Childrens Fund. The venues are14, Wharf Road (the old Parasol Unit complex) and Limbo Gallery, Margate, an artist run space. Both these initiatives in fact are artist-run and while the London one has an incredible line-up of names, the Margate exhibition is incredibly community-based and vital. Proud to making for both and be working with such motivated and tirelessly selfless people.
In these latest textile works about sound, maxims and acronyms we repeat aloud in our minds in order to memorise, question the unraveling totemic nature of the words and letters in banners and flags, versus the transient and very private nature of the sounds we “hear” within.
