A new double-vinyl release on Berlin’s Morphine Records is a collaboration between avant-garde Lebanese trumpeter Mazen Kerbaj and a gamut of great names including DJ Sniff who we’ve worked with in the past at Resonance104.4FM, and Palestinian producer Muqata’a who was on the same stage with me at the Noise from the Middle East festival, NYU, Abu Dhabi.
My track The Sign to Return is in the Earth’s Spin builds on concerns around ecology and works from the viewpoint of Palestinian refugees, who I spent time with in camps near Beirut on two separate visits to Lebanon for music gigs. In the video I made for social media on this release, I use photographs of old keys, keys being the symbol of hope for Palestinian farmers who were displaced from their land, they held the keys with the hope of return. Sampler/Sampled is available as digital download, vinyl record (sold out!) and CD.
